I checked the weather yesterday and the report was for drizzle and flurries up to one-inch. Not enough to skip our weekly trip to the library. Before going, I loaded up the libraries site and was blown away! The book that had never been returned that I argued with the clerk about was somehow checked back in. Of course the library didn’t wave the late fee but I’ve been renewing it online so it was only a dime. We stepped out of the library with full intentions of making a stop at Wal-Mart to purchase some minute fish supplies when we were blasted with a crisp wintry mix. Off to home we go.
Most of my personal entertainment at home revolves around electricity; TV, fish tanks, reading and puttering on my computer. The power had flashed a couple of times through the day; but, my UPS supplies kept the machines on and I was fine. 2:30 PM we lost all power. Since it’s overcast outside I can’t read unless I use a flashlight or candles. I can’t see my fish and my computer and TV are suddenly very boring. Shannon found great amusement in giggling that I didn’t have my normal means of entertainment and she mockingly teased me quite a bit until I pointed out that I wasn’t the one that was maniacally laughing. I enjoy computer role-playing games. I’ve played all the popular ones, the unpopular ones and ones that have never been released in the US. I really enjoyed playing World of Warcraft. August of last year I was caught violating the Terms of Service that Blizzard enforces. It was a good break for me and I moved on. The siren has sent out her lure and drawn me back. I’m not really a social sort online so I didn’t play WoW for the other people; but, for the game and the exploration. Rumor has it that you can play WoW using an emulated private server. Wouldn’t that be nice? …it sure is. |

[...] Today, I logged into the library’s web site to check out what kind of electrical books they had when I noticed I had another block on my account. Looks like they didn’t check all my books in again. While the kids were playing I talked to the Information Desk Clerk and explained the situation. She, very politely and tiredly, told me to check around the house and maybe look wherever I keep my magazines and I’d probably find the book and that it’s only human nature that allows us to forget where we leave things. I agreed with her that it was human nature to forget some things and that maybe someone forgot to check in my book–she disagreed. She changed her mind though when I showed her the book that I pulled from the shelf. She waived the fees for the book and also waived the fees from the last book too. Very kind of her. [...]
